A Masterpiece on Mission: Meet Emily Barnes

At City of Joy International, we believe every person is God’s masterpiece—uniquely created, made new in Christ, and called to do the good works He prepared long ago.

This summer, we’re thrilled to welcome Emily Barnes back to Rwanda—not just as a visitor, but as our Intern Director.

 

A beloved social studies teacher at Northwest Christian School, Ms. Barnes was deeply moved by her time at City of Joy last year. She connected so deeply with our students, staff, and mission that she nearly extended her stay to spend the summer with us.

 

This year, she’s not missing the chance.

 

The day after school lets out, she’s heading straight to Rwanda to lead our team of interns. Her role will be to guide and mentor them as they serve across our campus and community—from preschool morning warmups, to high school physics classes, to Chapel gatherings and outreach in local schools.

We are so thankful for her heart, her leadership, and her willingness to invest her summer in something eternal.
